How far can You see?

If you stand in an open field and look with an unobstructed view, you can see about 13 or 14 miles. Christopher Columbus sat on the docks of Genoa and watched the ships sail in and out of the harbor. As he watched, he noticed that as they sailed out to sea, the ship would sink into the horizon. He discovered that the earth is round. Galileo took a crude telescope and watched the stars. He discovered that the earth revolves around the sun. Isaac Newton was sitting under an apple tree, probably eating lunch and saw an apple fall to the ground. He discovered gravity. The Montgophier brothers were playing with fire and paper bags. They discovered the hot air rises. How far can you see? Is your vision limited to what is in front of you? Or can you see in the distance? There 1000’s of people who have looked at something and said this will work. They saw that their prospective showed them an avenue to whatever. And of course there were people saying you’re crazy, that will never work. Columbus had to go to the King and Queen of Spain for support. Galileo was arrested by the Catholic Church and declared a heretic. Newton was opposed by the scientist of the day. They said that he was an occultist, in league with the devil. The Montgophier brothers were dismissed as spoiled rich kids when they developed the hot air balloon. How far can you see? What can you see? Do you wear blinders? Do you ever want to see anything different? There are people who don’t want to see anything. They are happy with the status quo. When the reporters asked Thomas Edison why it took so long to make the light bulb. He said I learn 2000 ways of how not to make a light bulb. But I took only I time to make it right. How far can you see? How far are you willing to go to see? Would you bet your life on it?

Reflecting an Image

Have you ever looked into the mirror and wondered who that person was? I have known people who have gotten lost because of this or that in their lives. It has happened to me. And we didn’t think anything of it. It was just another phase we were going through or we are trying to get somewhere. Unfortunately we weren’t getting anywhere fast. It isn’t hard to lose yourself in anything. And sometimes people can’t come back from there. If isn’t a fun or safe place to be, lost. Everything that you are is put aside to obtain a goal. Here is a sad statistic on Teen Moms, 50% never finish high school, and 25% have another baby within 24 months and only 2% graduate from college. These girls are truly lost. Yet society says it is ok to have sex before marriage. And you wonder why there are so many divorces. Then there is drug abuse. A growing national problem is up to about 10% of the population. The cost of this problem is about ½ of a trillion dollars a year. When does it become catastrophic? How long will people look the other way? Will you wait until it comes knocking on your door? Being lost is a solvable problem. It your involvement in the situation. When you become involved you can prevent things. And I will tell you prevention is the best effort that man can do to solve this kinds of problems. Now to solve them on an ongoing basis it takes Jesus’ intervention. The US government did a study to find out why Teen Challenge was so successful in drug intervention. They called the report the Jesus Factor. Because they could only find one reason why Teen Challenge worked and their programs didn’t. And that was Jesus.

Believe a Lie

2 Thess. 2:11 “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:” Have you ever believed a lie? Someone told you something and you believed. When you found out it was a lie you wanted to beat that person into the ground. It hurts to be deceived. It hurts like hell. And that is a truth. There are so many delusions floating around out there, I don’t know where to begin. God said don’t fight heresy for heresies sake. You have to fight it with the truth. Because God says that the truth will set you free. I had a young Christian approach me when I worked at the Christian radio station. He was upset that we weren’t preaching hellfire and brimstone. I let him say his piece then I did something he didn’t expect. I thanked him for telling me and wished him Godspeed. We war not against flesh and blood but spiritual wickedness in high places. We can’t take what unbeliever’s say as the truth. Because they don’t see or even know the truth. I have been studying the truth for 37 years. The truth is the word of God, the bible. We need to study both Old and New Testament. Why? Because it isn’t 2 books. It is one book written by one person to help us live our life on earth and to make it into heaven. The bible is a book about one subject, Jesus. He is in every chapter of every book. And all you have to do is call upon His name.

Heartache

Heartache is the pain of suffering lost. Do know what the interesting thing about that is heartache is a spiritual condition. But that registers in the physical world. It being that your physical heart hurts. Your mind, will and intellect are all spiritual. They as a collective existing in heaven as well as on earth. Your heart is tied to your physical body. God tied your spirit to your physical body by the breath of life or your soul. So what happens to your physical body happens to your spirit. Some societies believe that your spirit and body are separate and can’t interact. Guilt is a spiritual condition. Again it can physically affect your body in a dramatic way. Anger is another spiritual condition. It is clinically known that it causes cancer. Your body and spirit are tied together. God made it so that we as a human can understand that everything we do affects us. Why do you think that God instructed our parents to teach us the right way? It is for our health and well-being. God said it the truth shall set you free. Set us free from what? The fear of death has held us in bondage all of our lives. To set us free from bondage. Jesus descended into hell and took the keys of death and hell away from the devil. So that we could be free from it. It also says that Jesus led captivity captive. It means that Jesus led the saints in hades to freedom into the kingdom of heaven. So are you tired of heartache and misery? The only way to be free from it is to be set free by God. There is no other way. Many people try and never obtain anything worthwhile. Let Jesus led you into the kingdom of heaven.

Love

It seems to be an overrated word. It is used in anything and everything. It is used to describe pancakes or a car. Sometimes it used to mean something evil. It is so confusing that people don’t use the word hardly ever. It a shame that word has very special meaning. It should be used correctly and abundantly. There are 3 different meaning for the word love. In the bible there is Godly love, agape. There is brotherly love, philo. Then there is sensual love, eros. The love that God want us to have is His kind of love. That is to love one another unconditionally. It is the hardest to do all the time. It is easy to love someone like a brother. And the other oh well. But what do you do as concerning man. There are some times that I would let the whole world go to hell in a handbasket. But that is not what God want us to do. Walking in God’s footstep is one of the hardest things I have ever done. Then again it has been relatively easy because God does the work for me. All I have to do is follow along and let God do His work. But that means I have to go where God goes. And sometimes it is to break down the gates of hell to snatch a soul out of the hands of the enemy. And yes I have been there and back. It is trusting that God knows what He is doing and will perform His word as He has said. This is where trusting and believing comes into play. If you believe then the next is doing. Then the next step is accomplishing your task that God assigns to you. What is it going to be, life or death?

Why Wait

Procrastination is putting off doing things until tomorrow. Things that you can do today. I know about this state of being. Unfortunately I know it well. I would work long hours and come home tired. And all I wanted was to sit down and relax. There was something to do at home. It needed my attention right away. But I didn’t do and somehow it never got done. Some of these things were very important. It concerned either my wife or children. And I regret it to this day. Over the years I have learn many lessons the hard way. Instead of just doing what I needed to do in the first place. If you let regret pile up it becomes very hard sometimes. When I first started with the Lord, I was excited to be busy in the kingdom of God. I wanted nothing else than to be doing God’s will in my life. As I added responsibility to my wagon, it became a wagon train. I had to learn to let God take the load for me. I couldn’t do it myself. Nor did I want to pull the load myself. God says that He will not give us anything heavier than we are capable of carrying. Why carry the load yourself? I have seen people crumble under the load. Some it destroyed them. This is not what God wants. Our lives are meant to be joyous and fruitful. We are meant to be an honor to God and His mercy. How can we be an example of kingdom if we are crushed by life itself? God says cast your cares upon Me, for my burden is easy and my yoke is light. So why wait for life to destroy who you are, let God help you and live accordingly.

Yesterday’s Tomorrow +1 =

The future is the past + the present. The present is nowhere without the future + the past. So what does all that mean in plain English. There is nothing new under the sun, what was shall be again. You remember the movie that talked about the circle of life. Life is a circle but not the way they mean it. You always want to be mindful of the things that happen in the past. Why, because they will happen again. The future, the present and the past are basically the same. Why would you say it is the same? It is because there is an element in there that never changes. And what are we talking about now? The basic element that never changes is man. Or rather I should say the corruption of man. From birth man is corrupt. People baulk at saying that babies are corrupt. Answer me this question. How do babies know how to lie, cheat and steal? Did their parents teach them to be dishonest? Did they learn it from their brothers and sisters? Did their aunts and uncles teach them to be dishonest? So where did it come from? Here is the answer that no one wants to hear. We as a member of the human race are born corrupt. Because we are born in sin. The sin of Adam and Eve has been and will always be transmitted to every new born baby. Thank God for His grace that doesn’t attribute sin to us personally until we reach the age of reason. When is the age of reason? When does a person begin to understand who they are and what they are about? For most people, it is about the same age. That is the age of puberty. When a young man reached that age in the Old Testament times, he was considered a man. He would have to start working either in his father’s business or someone else’s. For a young woman, her parents would start to look for a husband for her. Then when an agreement was made between the two parties, the young women was betrothed. Life seems so complicated. But it really isn’t. God made it simple for man.

The Land of Tomorrow

I can hear that song from the Movie Annie, where she sings about tomorrow. How everything will be all right tomorrow. The only problem is that tomorrow never comes. When tomorrow comes it is today. We need to dream and hope for the future. It is an important part of our life. Without it we would became dissolute and depressed. Without hope life would became worthless. That is when people take their lives. There is more to life than that. What are you looking for? What is your goal and can you achieve it? I am all for thinking big. Wanting to do something worthwhile. I hate to ever say it because it would seem that there is no hope. I have seen a person who made a 6 on their ACT test become a dean in a college. I have seen people take what little resources they had and make into a thriving business. There is nothing impossible for God to do. On the other hand, it is impossible for any man to change into a righteous person before God. Everything that we have coincides with the work of God. Now I have seen people take what God gave them and turn it into a pile of trash. It is unfortunate it happens more often than not. Man thinks that he is large and in charge of his own destiny. It is the exact opposite. God is the only one who is large and in charge. And when He shares His life with us we become winners. All this hoorah about crystals, pyramids, or every other supposedly god-like object is garbage. There is only one God and He is ready for you to come His way and live.

Into the New Year

Looking into the New Year, I wonder what will happen to me. It is the unknown that has always been scary to me. Whether or not I would make it until tomorrow. As you strive to achieve in this world, you build and establish what you want to happen. Which at any given moment can be taken away by death. Do you treasure the things of earth more than heaven or vice versa? Then what do you do when it requires your life. Do you stand up and be counting or not? People have reality shows but they aren’t about reality. Reality is something that most people don’t think about. What is reality in your life? Is it just the mundane? Are you just about food, clothing and shelter or do you see beyond that? It is so easy to get caught up in working for a living and see nothing else. But there is so much more to life than your existence. Growing up I always felt a higher calling. Not that people don’t want to achieve things in their lives. I felt that there was more than just my life at stake. I would always get glimpses of things I was supposed to do. It excited me and terrified me at the same time. The most spectacular thing that I have ever than is not for public consumption. When you get to heaven ask God. He tell you the story. It scare me almost to death. And I literally mean death. When I came out on the other side I felt almost invincible. I had to be careful about that because pride goes before the fall. God used me in His work on earth and gave me the credit. He still has things for me to do. I am baulking at it. Because on the one hand I am terrified. On the other hand I am very excited about the work. If you wish to help pray. Thanks.

New Year’s Day +1

After watching 12 hours of college football and eating, I am fully disgusted. I am too full of food for sure. Also I am disgusted at lop sided football games. There was nothing else decent to watch on TV. All the cable channels had the same old same old stuff. I can remember when there were good shows on television. And I am not talking about 50 years ago. It is like they stopped trying to produce quality shows. I don’t know if they are disgusted or just gave up on trying. I always thought that trying to improve oneself was a good goal to strive for. The betterment of oneself and the work that you produce was an achievable goal for anyone. It just seems that people have become mercenary. I sorry but some of the sponsors for the bowl games seem to come out of the woodworks. Then there were a dozen more sponsors on the same game. If there weren’t signs everywhere for the cameras to see, there were commercials enough to choke a horse. Then every player’s jersey was a billboard for the sponsor of the game. Are people really hurting that much for money or they just trying to pile it up in their corner. It is a sad state of affair for amateur sports to be so heavily invested in by corporate America. Again maybe it is just a sad state of affair for man. I am all for helping young people receive an education, but what is the real cost for each individual. Sometimes I think it is way too heavy a price to pay for these young men and women. There is still more football games to come. So I’ll tell how it goes after another day in the neighborhood. Have a blessed day.
