What Road are You on?

The most famous road in America is the old route 66. Route 66 started in Chicago, Illinois and ended in Santa Monica, California. There were other roads also famous in America. The Oregon trail, which is from Independence, Missouri and ended in Oregon City, Oregon. Then there is the Natchez trace. It started in Virginia with the Cumberland Gap and ran through Nashville, Tennessee until Natchez, Mississippi. The Natchez Trace is still there. It is now a National Parkway. Those are some of the man made roads that became famous in America. Throughout the history of America, people understood how important roads were. It not only provides a convenient way of access from town to town, but a way of commerce for selling goods and services. Some of my ancestors followed Daniel Boone through the Cumberland Gap and settled in Boonesborough, Tennessee.

Roads not only provide a way of access, but the dream of adventure. What do you think Daniel Boone was thinking about when he first crossed the Cumberland mountains into Kentucky and Tennessee? He knew that he was headed in Shawnee territory. They didn’t like white men. They chased him several times before catching him. They didn’t kill him and he escaped. Then Daniel Boone led settlers to Boonesborough, Tennessee.

Everybody is on a road somewhere. The road you take will make the difference in your life. Whether to move to a different town or stay in your hometown, that road will lead you to your destiny. Yes, everyone has a destiny, a plan for their lives. Whether or not you chose to live that life will decide what happens to you. Before the end of your life, you can chose to change directions in your life. We can change the road we are on, if we have the courage to do so. Changing directions in your life isn’t always easy. It is simple, by not easy. Like in the Indiana Jones movie, the old Crusader, who guarded the Holy Grail, said, chose wisely, because one leads to life and the other leads to death.

Chose your choices wisely, because one leads to life and the other leads to death.

Crain Blanchard.
