A Second Chance…

Have you ever thought, I wish I could live my life over. Or you wish you could have a second chance at life. I will tell you a truth about myself, I’m not perfect. I have made mistakes I wish I change. As I get older, it seems harder to change my life than when I was young. No body wants to face their mistakes, even though it is the right thing to do. Growing up is that part where we face responsibility and own up to our mistakes. Sometimes it makes you look like a fool and sometimes you are the hero for owning up to your mistakes. Either way it is a painful decision. We are imperfect for a reason. It is the way we learn to live our lives. The bible tells us that Jesus learned obedience by the thing which He suffered. We learn the same way. When your mom told you not to put your hands on the hot stove and did anyway. Well, we learned. King Solomon was a wise man. He said that sharp words stir up strife, he wasn’t kidding. More fights have broken out over yelling at someone. Just look at the NFL or MLB. More fight have broken out because someone said something stupid to someone else. One fight in the NFL which cause both teams to start fighting, cost the player who started it a suspension and a half a million dollars in fines. The take-away from mistakes is leaning not to do it again.

I have tried diligently not to repeat the same mistakes, but it always seems that I didn’t have power to do just that. It is funny how that works. When I was at my lowest in life, I desperately needed a second chance. No one wanted to have anything to do with me. I was bitter and mean spirited. I said cruel things to hurt the people around. I keep to myself because I didn’t want to hurt anyone else. Then I went to work for a man who saw my need. He and another man began to talk in front of me about a second chance. They never spoke directly to me about my need. They explained to each other how I could get this second chance. It took almost 3 months of talking before I was ready and trusted that I could have this second chance. They invited me to their church and I accepted. That Sunday in September of 1978, I gave me heart to the Lord. I got my second chance at life. And I’m not special. Anyone can get a second chance at life if they are willing.
