Abraham was justified by faith, before he was circumcised. Justification is not by the law, but by faith. The promise of God to Abraham was that he would become the father of many nations. Abraham’s faith was accounted to him as righteousness. There is much discussion about the Law and Grace. The Law of God hasn't been discarded. In fact, it is still in forced. Do you know what the penalty of the Law is? It is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life. The law was given to convict us of sin. Which in turn will lead us to repentance toward God. And to ask Him to forgive us. Then we by faith can receive God's gift of righteousness, Jesus Christ. It isn't by works that we can get into heaven. It is only by faith in God through Jesus. And how we do this is by asking for forgiveness and believing that God will forgive and cleanse us from sin.
