Selflessness.

It is almost a foreign concept in American life. The mainstream life in America is about acquiring stuff. The more we have the more important we are. Which is an absolute lie. You have heard the clique, keeping up with the Jones. It is nothing but greed. Have you ever heard the story of the Mayflower and its passengers? 256 people, men, women, and children boarded a 90 ft. ship. It took 3 months to sail from Plymouth, England to Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts. They landed November 21,1620. The North Atlantic Ocean is nothing but violent storms during winter. When they anchored off Plymouth Rock, there were only 125 people left. They came for religious freedom and to escape the wars in Europe. The first day they arrived, they fasted and prayed that God would help them. Then they drew up a document that everyone agreed to and signed. It was called the Mayflower Compact. This first legal document in America said that everyone held all their goods and belongings in common. The stores were for everyone. They still had a hard time making a go of the new land. They made friends with the local Indians. They taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn and to fish. After three years of planting, they harvested a great crop. They held a celebration and invited their friends the Indians to join in. They gave of themselves so that they would survive in this new world. This principle is still the same today. To survive our changing world, we must ban together in selflessness. This will not only guarantee our survival but allow us to prosper.
