1 Corinthians Ch.4-5 – Servants of Christ & Immorality.

1 Corinthians 4 – We are the servants of Christ and a servant is to be found trustworthy. The Lord is the only one that can judge that. Let not any man become arrogant against another. For all have received everything from God. Paul said to them “shall I come to you with a rod as to children or with love?”

1 Corinthians 5 – vs.1 “It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles,” There was immorality in the Church at Corinth. A man laid with his father’s wife. The Word says don’t allow him in your presence, put him out of the church. With prayerful consideration and the leading of the Holy Spirit, turn one like that over to satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his soul (spirit) might be saved. God tells us not to eat or associate with brothers or sisters, who are immoral, covetous, idolaters, revilers, drunkards or swindlers. Immorality has been a recurring subject, even in the bible. God is very specific. He doesn’t tolerate it. It isn’t ok for couples to live together before marriage. It is sin to God and you will lose everything from God. Yet in today’s society, it is called normal. That is how far the world is from God.

1 Corinthians Ch.3-Divisions in Church.

1 Corinthians 3 – vs1: “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.” You are babies in Christ and fleshly. All they can handle is the milk of the Word of God. In Corinth, their jealousy and strife proved they were babies and fleshly. In harvesting of souls, one man plants, another waters, but God gives the increase. Each man will receive a reward from God for his part, but God does the work. Jesus is the foundation and another builds upon it, whether you build with gold, silver, wood, hay or stubble. Each man’s work will be revealed by fire on the Lord’s day. You are the temple of God. If any man destroys the temple, God will destroy him. You can never repent of suicide. Look to no man, you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God.

1 Corinthians Ch.2-Divisions in Church.

1 Corinthians 2 – Paul told them that he came to them humbly and in love, demonstrating the power of God and the working of the Holy Spirit. So that they would be established upon the Word of God and not man. Paul wanted to establish their faith by the Word of God. 1 Cor.2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”(KJV). God gives us all knowledge and wisdom by the Spirit of God, for man’s wisdom is passing away. The natural man can’t receive the things of God but the spiritual man can. 1 Cor.2:14 “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”(KJV).

1 Corinthians Ch.1-Divisions in Church.

1 Corinthians 1 – vs.1 – Paul wrote 1 Corinthians with Sosthenes – Acts 18:17 – ruler of the synagogue who received Jesus. They were in Ephesus. Paul hears about divisions in the Church. Paul hadn’t been gone for more than 6 months. Paul tells the Corinthians they are sanctified, made holy by Jesus. He told them who they were in Christ and what the Lord had given them. Then, Paul ask them what they were doing arguing and causing dissension in the body of Christ. He tells them their wisdom is of the world and is foolishness. They didn’t come to Jesus with the world’s wisdom but with God’s. 1 Cor.1:21 “For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;”(KJV).

Romans Ch.16.Final Instructions.

Romans 16 – Paul greets all the brethren at Rome. Paul wrote Romans from Corinth. A young woman from there is going to Rome. In the first century, you couldn’t change churches unless the pastor wrote a letter of recommendation. Then he salutes or tell people hello. Priscilla and Aquila moved back to Rome. Then he begins to list people to greet. Then Paul list who not to trust. Vs.17 “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” Be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil. Then the saints in Corinth say hello. This is a letter written to the saints in Rome. Then Paul begins to pray for the church in Rome.

Romans Ch.15.Being Like-Minded.

Romans 15 – Being Like-minded, Self Denial on behalf of others. Those who are strong bear the weaknesses of the weak ones, to please our neighbor and not ourselves. Vs.1 “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.”
How often do you ask Jesus what to do? Is the only time, when you are in trouble? You give Him a quick prayer, James 1:5, then go about your own way. Christ came to help others and not himself. We are here to give to others. What God gives to us is for others. We are here to show that God is real and alive. God will give to us to teach us so we can go and reach others. We are to be in one accord in Jesus. Jesus became a servant to fulfill the promises. Paul also talks about going to Jerusalem. He is bringing an offering from the Macedonians. He asks the saints to pray for him to deliver him from the Judeans who want to kill him. Paul explains where he is, where he is going. and hoping soon to come to the Roman church. Then Paul prays for the Roman Church.

Romans Ch.14.Conscience Sake.

Romans 14 – Conscience Sake – God tells us not to judge our brother who is weak in the faith nor the one who is weak in the faith to judge one who is stronger, in food, clothing, or days observed. For God is the judge of all. We will all stand before Him. For conscience sake, we are to uphold the body of Christ. It says that if a brother is offended because you do something, though you have the liberty in Christ, do not do it because of your brother. Again, the younger brother needs to understand that he doesn’t have the liberty in Christ to judge other. It doesn’t make it a sin for the older brother. But what God is saying, is not to offend you brother. Heaven isn’t food and drink, but love, joy and peace in God. God is saying not to judge one another. Because God is the Judge of all. If you have ought against someone, go to them in love and talk to them. Then if you win them over, God has won. This is for Conscience Sake.

Romans Ch.13.Christian Ethics.

Romans 13 - Christian Ethics - vs.1-2 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”
Be subject to governments (Noahiac Covenant). Vs.3-4 “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”
God tells us to obey governing authorities for they are ordained of God, ministers of God. Anyone rebelling against ruling authority is in rebellion to God. God says to pay taxes, give what is owned. vs.8 “owe nothing to any man, but to love him.” If you truly love your fellow man, you will fulfill the law.

Romans Ch.11.Israel.

Romans 11 – Israel – Has God cast away Israel? No, Israel would not enter in because of unbelief. God turned to the Gentiles to make Israel jealous, so that some might be saved. vs.15 “For if their rejection be the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead.” vs.25-29 “For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. 28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. 29 The gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” God has given to Israel the law and promises and will not take them away from her. Be aware that if God remove Israel because of unbelief, it could happen to you for they same reason. We are justified by faith, believing.
