Peter spoke to the crowd outside and everyone heard him in their own native language and 3000 became believers in Jesus. There aren’t many churches of 3000 people. it is a lot of work. but that was how God began again.

The Acts of the Apostles: Founding the Church.

These series of blogs are on the New Testament, the part of the bible written about the promise of God, Jesus. The gospels were written by subject matter. I put them in chronological order. Now it’s the Acts of the Apostles. The book of Acts is in chronological order. What I did was to place the Apostles where they were and when the Epistles were written. My dates are approximate. After Jesus rose from the dead, He stayed on earth for about 40 days or the day of Pentecost. Jesus set the church in order and told them what to expect.

The New Testament and The Book of Acts in Chronological order:
Ch.1-8:1a The Birth of the Church in Jerusalem.
Ch.1:1-5 The forty days.
Ch.1:6-11 The ascension of Jesus.
Ch.1:12-14 The Upper Room.

Time: 30 AD. The Founding of the Church.

Ch.1:15-25 A twelfth apostle is chosen.
Ch.2:1-13 Pentecost: the coming of the Holy Ghost.
Ch.2:14-25 Peter’s sermon. Fulfillment of prophesy. Resurrection of Jesus.
Ch.2:37-47 The New-born church.

The Closing Events: Forty day of Confirmation.

Jesus rose from the dead. Matt.28:1-15; Mark16:1-8;
Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-18.

On the first day of the week, there was an earthquake, and an angel rolled the stone away from the tomb. The Romans fell on their faces as dead men. The women, who traveled with Jesus, came that morning to finish the burial. They saw the stone rolled away and Jesus was not in the tomb. 2 angels told them that Jesus had risen from the dead and to go tell the disciples and Peter. Peter, John and Mary ran back to the tomb. John looked in , but Peter went in. John believed, but not Peter. Mary stayed behind, when they left. Then Jesus appeared to Mary. Some of the guards went to the chief priest and told them what happened. The elders and chief priest paid off the Roman guards to say that the disciples stole his body.

Jesus appeared to his disciples. Mark 16:9-13; Luke 24:13-43;
John 20:11-21:25.
Jesus appeared 3 different times to his disciples in Jerusalem and Galilee.

The Commission and Ascension - Matt.28:16-20; Mark 16:14-20;
Luke 24:44-53. Mark 16:15-18 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

Jesus gave them the great commission to preach the gospel to the world. After he had given them these instructions, Jesus ascended into heaven.

The Closing Events: the Crucifixion.

Crucifixion – Matt.27:33-56,66; Mark 15:22-41,47; Luke 23:26-49,56, John 19:16-37.
Jesus was led to Golgotha, to be crucified. Simon of Cyrene carried the cross for Jesus. Jesus spoke the women weeping for him. He told them to weep for the people of Jerusalem. The Romans brought him to the place of the skull (Golgotha). There they stripped him and nailed him to the tree. Placing a scroll above his head, written in Hebrew, Greek and Latin, saying that Jesus was the King of the Jews. On each side of Jesus, 2 thieves were also crucified. One asked for forgiveness and the other cursed God. The Romans cast lots for Jesus’ garment (prayer shawl). From the 6th hour until the 9th, the earth was in darkness. This is when Jesus cried out to God, “why have you forsaken me”. God couldn’t look on sin and Jesus became the sin offering. Jesus gave up the Spirit at the 9th hour of the day. This is the time of the evening sacrifice in the temple. The veil separating the inner court from the Holy of Holies was split in two. Joseph of Arimathea with Nicodemas, received permission from Pilate to bury Jesus. With myrrh and aloes, they prepared and buried Jesus.

The Closing Events: Before Pilate.

The scepter was the right of the Jewish leaders to put to death, anyone transgressing the Law of Moses. This was taken away by the Roman government. The Sanhedren had to take Jesus to Pontius Pilate to crucify him.

Peter’s denial - Matt.26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; Luke 22:54-62; John 18:25-27.
Peter and John entered into the courtyard of the high priest. Peter was sitting outside, people began questioning him. Saying he was a follower of Jesus. Peter denied it 3 times, then the cock crowed and Jesus looked at Peter. He ran out weeping bitterly.

Suicide of Judas. Matt.27:3-10; Acts 1:18,19.
Matt.26:21 - one of you will betray me.
Matt.26:24 - woe to the man by which the Son of Man is betrayed.
Psalms 41:9
John 13:18 - He who eats my bread has lifted up his heel again me.
John 17:12 - not one of them perished but the son of perdition.
Psalms 109:6-8 - appoint a wicked man over him, and let an accuser stand at his right hand, when he is judged, let him come forth guilty; and let his days be few, let another take his office.
Judas could find no repentance in his heart. He felt guilty and condemned. So much that he hung himself.

Jesus before Pilate - Matt.27:11-32; Mark 15:1-19; Luke23:1-25;
John 18:28-19:16; Deut.21:6-9.
Pilate questioned Jesus, then sent him to Herod. Herod finished questioning him and sent him back to Pilate. As Pilate questioned Jesus, he couldn’t find any guilt in him (a perfect sacrifice). Pilate’s wife had a dream saying don’t have anything to do with judging Jesus. Pilate found out that Jesus was a king and also that he was the Son of God.
John 18:36; 19:7-12. Pilate tried to get Jesus released, but the crowds wanted Barabas released and Jesus crucified. Finally, Pilate agreed to crucify Jesus. Then he had Jesus scourged by the Romans and led away to Golgotha.
Deut.21:6-9 - The law provided for people to declare their innocence in the slaying of a man, by washing their hands in the sight of the priest and declaring their innocence.

The Closing Events: the Garden of Gethsemane.

On the first day of the feast of the unleavened bread, when they killed the Passover lamb, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives to pray. Gethsemane was an olive press, where the blood of the olives were pressed out, the oil. Matt.26:17-30; Mark 14:26-42; Luke 22:39-46; John 18:1.
Jesus was feeling the weight of the world for he was a man and was coming to grips with his death. Jesus died to himself in the garden, before he ever was put on the cross. When you accept the will of God, it becomes a fact in your life.
Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscarot. Judas led a Roman and officers of the chief priest to Jesus. Jesus asked them who they were looking for. They said Jesus of Nazareth. He answer, I am he, and they were all slain in the Spirit. Judas kissed Jesus and the soldiers arrested him. Peter, in the excitement, drew a sword and cut off an ear of the high priest slave. Jesus healed the ear. They brought Jesus before the high priest. Matt.26:57-68; Mark 14:53, 55-65; Luke 22:54, 63-65; John 18:12-24; Lev.24:16.
Jesus was arrested in the garden and taken to Annas’s, Caiaphas’ father in law. Jesus was questioned. Peter and John followed Jesus and entered into the courtyard of Annas. This is where Peter denied Jesus three times. John knew Annas. After questioning Jesus, they sent him to Caiaphas and the Sanhedren (council of elders). Jesus looked at Peter where the cock crowed twice. All the council were asking Jesus questions, but He didn’t answer. Until Caiaphas adjured Jesus by the name of God to answer. Then Jesus told them that he was the Christ. The Sanhedren declared that Jesus had blasphemed God and must die according to the Law of Moses. Jacob (Israel) prophesied to his son Judah, “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, and the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh come. Shiloh – Prince of Peace. Gen.49:10.

The Closing Events: The Last Supper.

Before they went to the Upper Room, they were at Simon the leper’s house. The bible doesn’t say who the woman was, but she came about supper time, as they were seated to eat. She took a bottle of myrrh and poured it on Jesus’ head. The disciples began to fuss. Jesus told them that she did it for my burial. And that she was to be remembered for it. The next day, Jesus gave 2 disciples instruction on where to prepare the Passover meal. Jesus said you will find a man carrying a pitcher of water. It was not hard for the disciples to find the man, because men didn’t carry water, only women. They followed him to the owner of the house and asked the use of the upper room.
On the Passover table, there is a placed reserved for the
Messiah. There was bread, striped and pierced, and wine on the table for the Messiah. Jesus sat at this place. He took the bread broke and said, eat. This is my body. He took the cup of wine and said, drink. This is the blood of the new testament shed for the remission of sins. And when they sang a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. Matt.26:17-30; Mark14:12-26; Luke 22:3-39;John 13:1-14:1.

The Closing Events: Passover.

When John the Baptist first saw Jesus, he said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world’. Jesus is the Lamb (The Passover Lamb), the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He is the Lamb of God slain from the foundations of the world (Rev.13:8).
The Passover lamb had to be spotless and unblemished. It was examined for 3 days before it was accepted and killed by the chief priests. Jesus entered Jerusalem on the 1st day of the week and began teaching in the Temple for 3 days.
The religious leaders saw all the people going out to meet Jesus and made this comment, ‘the whole world had gone after him’. That evening, Jesus and disciples went to Bethany.
The next morning, Jesus and his disciples came back to Jerusalem. On the way, Jesus was hungry. He went to a fig tree, but the tree had no fruit. He spoke to the tree and cursed it. They went on to the temple. Jesus saw the Jews defiling the Temple by making it a den of thieves and chased them out. Then Jesus and his disciples returned to Bethany. Matt.21:12-22; Mark 11:12-26; Luke 19:45-48; John 12:20-50; Isa.6:10.
Jesus and his disciples returned to Jerusalem. They passed the fig tree Jesus had cursed. It was now withered. As they enter the temple, Jesus began to teach. The religious leaders came to him and asked by what authority he taught. Jesus asked them a question. Where was John the Baptist’s baptism from? The religious leaders answered that they didn’t know, for they feared judgement and the people. In doing so, Jesus stripped them of all authority. For a teacher could never say he didn’t know the answer. Neither did Jesus answer their question.
Controversy about paying tribute to Caesar.
Controversy with the Sadducees about the resurrection.
Jesus commends the liberality of the poor widow.
The Jews reject Jesus.
Anointing of Jesus by Mary at Bethany.
Judas arranges to betray Jesus.
So the Passover Lamb was inspected for 3 days and no flaws were found in him. Matt.21:20-26:16; Mark 11:19-14:11; Luke 20:1-22:6; John 12:2-8.

The Closing Events: entering into Jerusalem.

The Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem. Matt.21:1-9;
Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:29-44; John 12:12-19; Zech.9:9. Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold your king is coming to you, he is just and endowed with salvation, humbled and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem to fulfill prophesy. He was proclaimed King of the Jews, the Son of David, the Messiah. The people were waving palm branches in front of Jesus. Ps.92:12 (kingship).
Palm – stately, majestic, grows straight, life in the heart, masters all circumstances, symbol of victory, nourished by hidden springs, benevolent to mankind (food, shelter, oil, shade), evergreen, bears in old age. Lev.23:40 (on the walls of the temple).
The people came out and met Jesus at the Mount of Olives, and he rode in through the Gate Beautiful. Ezekiel 44:1-3 “And the Lord said to me, This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened and no one shall enter it, for the Lord God of Israel had entered by it; therefore it shall be shut.” Luke 19:39-40 “And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.”

The Closing Events.

No one realizes how fast 3 years go by. Time is never stationary. It is always moving forward. You turn round and you’re a young adult. Then you’re married with children. Then you have grandchildren. Then most of your life is behind you. I look at what is left and want to make it count for something. Jesus knew when he started there was an end to his ministry on Earth. When he set his face to go to Jerusalem the end was in sight. His earthly ministry was coming to an end. And he knew that he was going to die. He didn’t want to because he loves us and wanted to stay on Earth. But ever since he was small he knew that he had to be about his Father’s business. At the end Jesus knew the religious leaders wanted to kill him. Jesus was careful where he went. So the scribes pharisees and the religious leaders couldn’t catch him until it was time. Jesus had revealed He was the messiah. Most Israelites believed he was. Even the religious leaders knew and understood that Jesus was the messiah. The religious leaders prophesied that 1 must die to save the nation. As Jesus and the disciples approached Jerusalem, they stopped on the village of Bethphage. It’s near the mount of olives. Jesus had 2 disciples to go into the village and get a donkey to ride on into Jerusalem to fulfill scripture, Zechariah 9:9. Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem.
